Taking Back Our Power; Women’s Empowerment or Exploitation?

Over the last 5 years I have had the pleasure of meeting so many amazing Entrepreneurs and working with them to build their brands. Many of these amazing businesses have eventually become partners (and maintained partnership status) because of their impeccable reputation, ethics, and willingness to go above and beyond for their clients. We love this culture and we support it whole heartedly.

However, there is a trend I have noticed and it just does not sit right with me…..

All too often I see business owners using “Empowerment” as a buzz word and not exemplifying the culture of women's empowerment. The biggest offenders are women themselves! I have seen first hand how Female Owned and Operated Businesses use “Empowerment” as a buzz word to attract a female audience only to provide subpar services at a premium price.

When you see catchy headlines and marketing shouting “Empowerment” ask yourself how does this service or product EMPOWER ME? Look at the cost. Can you feel empowered without a hefty pricetag? Ask yourself - what does this business actually do to empower women? Do they simply charge for a service - or do they give back to the community.

If a business is simply filling their pockets by over charging you, you haven't been “Empowered”, you have been “Exploited”.
